Morrison papers include photocopies of an obituary of Morrison (perhaps written by Laurence Halstead, Sr.). Although it covers his entire life, it focuses upon his service at Fort Leavenworth (1905-1912), the content and methodology of instruction, and his impact on his students. The application of his own principles during his service with the 21st Infantry is also discussed.

John F. Morrison was a United States (U.S.) Army major and lieutenant colonel, assistant commandant, and senior instructor of military art, Army Service Schools; lieutenant colonel, 21st U.S. Infantry Regiment. During the Spanish-American War, he went to Cuba and took part in the Santiago campaign of 1898.
